Is Disney Genie+ Worth it?

Updated: Apr 29, 2022

This is one of the most frequently asked questions right now with the Disney Genie+ service being so new, and honestly it's not the most straightforward "yes" or "no" answer. In my opinion, there are several different factors that go into deciding whether Genie+ is worth the extra investment for you and your family. Although I don't believe its the most straightforward answer, let me share a few thoughts with you that may help you decide if purchasing Genie+ is the right choice for you.

  1. What time of year are you visiting Disney? I think this has a big impact on whether you purchase Genie+ or not because if the crowds are low, why spend the extra money? Now, I do believe time is money while in Disney because there is so much to do while you are there, but if you're on a budget and want to save where you can, it's definitely something to keep in mind. Obviously, the busier the parks are the longer the wait times will be, so if you are visiting during a busy time (summer, spring break, thanksgiving week, Christmas, etc.) you may want to consider spending the extra money.

  2. Which parks will you be attending? Now, if you are going to Disney during a busy time

and want to purchase Genie+, maybe consider only purchasing it for certain parks. In my honest opinion I think Genie+ is worth if for Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, but not so much for Animal Kingdom and Epcot. Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios have a lot of rides, and if you are only visiting each park one day, you will want to fit in as many rides as possible. On the other hand, Animal Kingdom and Epcot don't have as many rides and their wait times are typically not as bad, so you can usually get in all of the rides you want. With all that said, just keep in mind that you can purchase Genie+ for only certain park days, and you don't have to purchase it for everyday if you don't choose to.

3. What rides are a priority for you and your family? I would take this into consideration because maybe you have small children who can't ride some of the larger attractions which have the longer wait times, or maybe you are visiting with all adults who don't want to ride as many rides and want to spend most of your time relaxing, shopping, and "drinking around the world".

Every travel party is different and has varying preferences, so that is why it's hard for me to give a solid, all-encompassing answer.
