Things at Disney World That Are Completely Free
Let's be honest, a Walt Disney World vacation isn't exactly known for being inexpensive. Between your resort, park tickets, dining, and those souvenirs that somehow keep finding their way into your suitcase, the costs can add up!
But here's something you might not realize:
There are actually quite a few Disney experiences that don't cost anything extra.
Some of these require theme park admission or a Disney Resort stay, while others can be enjoyed without ever stepping inside a theme park. And sometimes, these little experiences end up becoming some of your favorite vacation memories!
Here are some of my favorite things to enjoy at Disney World without adding another charge to your vacation budget.
🎆 1. Watch the Magic Kingdom Fireworks From Outside the Park
You don't necessarily have to be standing on Main Street, U.S.A. to enjoy the Magic Kingdom fireworks.
Several nearby Disney Resorts offer beautiful views of the nighttime spectacular, including areas around Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
It's a fun option for a non-park evening—or a relaxing way to enjoy a little extra Disney magic during your trip.
🚝 2. Ride the Monorail
You don't need a theme park ticket just to ride Disney transportation!
Hop aboard the monorail and take a ride around the Magic Kingdom Resort loop. It's especially fun with little ones who think the transportation is an attraction all by itself.
You can get off along the way and explore the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary resorts.
Bonus idea: Turn it into your own monorail resort tour!
🏨 3. Explore Disney Resorts
You don't have to be staying at a Deluxe Resort to appreciate how beautiful it is.
Disney Resorts are attractions in themselves, especially during the holidays.
Visit Animal Kingdom Lodge and look for animals on the savanna, explore the incredible lobby at Wilderness Lodge, stroll along the BoardWalk, or admire the tropical atmosphere at the Polynesian.
Just keep in mind that Disney may restrict parking or resort access at busy times, so using Disney transportation is often the easiest way to explore.
🦒 4. See Animals at Animal Kingdom Lodge
Here's a fun one that many first-time visitors don't realize!
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge has animal-viewing areas where you may spot giraffes, zebras, and other animals roaming the savannas.
You don't have to book a Savannah View room to enjoy them.
It's a wonderful activity for an afternoon away from the parks, especially if you have animal-loving kids.
🔥 5. Enjoy Resort Campfires
Many Disney Resorts offer complimentary campfire activities on select evenings.
Families can gather around the fire, roast marshmallows, and enjoy a slower-paced evening together.
Schedules can change, so check your resort's recreation schedule during your stay.
🎬 6. Watch a Movie Under the Stars
Another fun Disney Resort perk is Movies Under the Stars.
Many resorts show Disney movies outdoors on select evenings, giving families a chance to grab a seat, relax, and watch a favorite movie together.
After a busy park day, sometimes pajamas and a Disney movie are exactly what everyone needs!
🎨 7. Enjoy Complimentary Resort Activities
Don't overlook your resort's activity schedule.
Depending on where you're staying, you may find complimentary activities such as trivia, pool games, crafts, scavenger hunts, and other family activities.
Not every activity is free, so check the schedule, but there are usually some fun options that won't cost anything extra.
🎉 8. Celebrate With a Complimentary Celebration Button
Celebrating something special?
Stop by Guest Relations or select locations around Walt Disney World and ask about a complimentary celebration button.
Whether it's your birthday, anniversary, first visit, or another special occasion, wearing your button is a fun little Disney tradition.
You may even hear a few extra "Happy Birthdays!" or congratulations from Cast Members throughout the day.
🃏 9. Collect Free Disney Keepsakes
Keep an eye out for little complimentary souvenirs throughout your vacation.
One of my favorites is the transportation cards or activity materials that occasionally pop up around the resort. Kids may also receive stickers from Cast Members from time to time.
They're simple, but they're fun little keepsakes, especially for children.
And remember: these offerings aren't guaranteed, so think of them as a fun surprise when you find one!
💧 10. Get Free Cups of Ice Water
This isn't the most exciting freebie on the list, but it might be one of the most useful!
Instead of purchasing bottled water throughout the day, ask for a complimentary cup of ice water at participating quick-service locations.
Florida is HOT, and staying hydrated is important, especially when you're walking miles around the parks.
Bring a reusable water bottle and refill it throughout the day to save even more.
📸 11. Take Advantage of Disney PhotoPass Photographers
Here's a tip that surprises some first-time guests:
You don't have to purchase a photo package just to ask a Disney PhotoPass photographer to take your picture.
In many locations, photographers can also take a photo using your own phone or camera when circumstances allow.
It's an easy way to get the whole family into the picture instead of having one person missing from every vacation photo!
🕵️ 12. Try Disney's Free Interactive Experiences
There are little experiences throughout Walt Disney World that are easy to overlook when you're rushing from one major attraction to another.
For example, EPCOT's Kidcot Fun Stops give younger guests activities to enjoy as they explore the World Showcase pavilions.
Experiences like these can be a fun change of pace, and they're already included with your park admission.
🎵 13. Enjoy Live Entertainment
Disney World is filled with entertainment that doesn't require an additional ticket once you're there.
Depending on the location and current entertainment schedule, you might stumble upon live musicians, performers, street entertainment, or other unexpected experiences.
Sometimes the best Disney moments are the ones you didn't schedule.
🌅 14. Spend an Evening at Disney's BoardWalk
Disney's BoardWalk is a great place to visit on an evening when you don't have park plans.
Walk along the water, take in the atmosphere, explore the surrounding resorts, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the area.
There are plenty of opportunities to spend money here, but simply enjoying the BoardWalk doesn't cost a thing!
🚤 15. Take a Disney Boat Ride
The monorail isn't the only Disney transportation that can double as entertainment.
Disney operates complimentary boats between several resorts, theme parks, and Disney Springs.
For little kids especially, riding the boat can be an adventure all on its own.
And for adults? It's a pretty relaxing way to enjoy the scenery.
Don't Forget to Slow Down
One of the biggest Disney planning mistakes I see is feeling like every minute of your vacation needs to involve another reservation, attraction, or paid experience.
It doesn't.
Some of the best moments can be incredibly simple, watching your kids spot a giraffe, taking an evening boat ride, exploring a beautifully themed resort, or sitting together under the stars watching a Disney movie.
You don't always have to spend more money to add more magic to your Disney vacation.
